Trapper Education Classes
Yearly instructional classes are held free of charge each September during the West Virginia Trappers Association annual convention.

The Beginner Class is geared toward very young students who will learn about the various furbearers in West Virginia, the differences between trap types, plus a few basic regulations. Plenty of free goodies available for each student.

The Intermediate Class is designed for both first-time trappers and trappers who have very little field experience. Students will be introduced to basic land and water trapping, snaring, trap staking, trap sizes and regulations. Hands-on stations allow these students to dye traps, make sets, flesh fur and more. Each student receives a free trapping package to get him or her started on their own trapline.

The next trapper education classes will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Gilmer County Recreation Center in Glenville, WV.  For more information or to register for class, call Mike Gray (304) 291-0957.

At each WVTA event, there are opportunities for additional learning. At our fur auctions, there are skinning and fleshing demonstrations, plus the opportunity to learn about fur grading.

During our annual convention, there are ample opportunities to observe trapping demos, trap preparation, fur handling and more.

In addition, there are a few events thoughtout the state to help you become a better trapper. Many of these events are held by WVTA members or affiliates.

On the right sidebar, you can view, download or print several different educational booklets.
